Meet Our Pastor, Dr. T.A. Powell

For Dr. T.A. Powell, ministry has always been about more than preaching a sermon. It is about people, relationships, grace, and helping others discover who they are in Christ.

Dr. Powell brings more than five decades of ministry, pastoral leadership, teaching, and mentoring experience to Windsor Baptist Church. He began pastoral ministry in 1971 and went on to serve for 26 years as Senior Pastor of Liberty Baptist Church in Suffolk, Virginia. He later served for nearly a decade as an interim and transitional pastor at Covenant Community Church in Martinsville, helping guide the congregation through an important season of transition.

His ministry has also extended far beyond the local church. Since 2005, Dr. Powell has served as an adjunct professor with Liberty University, teaching thousands of students in biblical studies, theology, evangelism, and Christian ministry. His teaching experience has also included Regent University and other Christian universities.

Dr. Powell earned his Bachelor of Science in History Education from Virginia Commonwealth University, a Master of Arts in Religion and Master of Divinity equivalency from Liberty University, and his Doctor of Ministry from Liberty in 2008. His doctoral research focused on the causes of and recovery from forced termination among clergy, reflecting a deeply personal passion for helping pastors and people navigate difficult seasons with grace, healing, and hope.

At the heart of Dr. Powell's ministry is a belief in authentic relationships. His own journey has shaped a ministry centered on spiritual and emotional health, grace, accountability, restoration, and helping people move beyond the baggage created by failure, broken relationships, and life's difficult chapters.

Dr. Powell and his wife, Betty, have shared life and ministry together since 1968. They have three children, Tom, Beth, and Sharon, eight grandchildren, and a lifetime of experiences that have deepened their appreciation for family, friendship, faith, and the grace of God.

Now, as Pastor of Windsor Baptist Church, Dr. Powell brings that lifetime of experience into a new season of ministry: honoring the church's rich heritage while helping Windsor Baptist continue becoming a place where people can know Christ, experience authentic community, grow in their faith, and truly belong.
